History of ISLE

ISLE is a nonprofit organization that was formed in 2018 by attorney David Harris and Social Work educator Wendy Turner.  Dr. Turner began taking students on service-learning trips to Jamaica in 2005 with International Orphanage Relief (IOR).  By developing her professional networks in Jamaica, the work over time extended beyond orphanages, as she partnered with schools, infirmaries and group homes that serve people of all ages.  When IOR closed in 2018, Dr. Turner decided to form an organization that could continue the work she had been doing.  She reached out to alumni of the trip to form the board of directors for ISLE.
